Book is fair in olive cloth boards with color illustration six Little Bunkers posing face forward three and three flanking center illustrations of the children at play--black lettering...overall spot wear and much foxing to boards--no wear through except at top and bottom right corners with minimal fraying...front board illustration clear and colorful...frontispiece in color illustrated by Walter S. Rogers and text is repeated in black and white on page 140...text is secure to binding throughout...front hinge only slightly weakened...text edge aging soil on all three exposed edges is uniform...light crimp to several pages bottom edge, 10 pages with small margin tears, many chipped corners...248+ pages, only one annotation observed--person's signature in ink top of page 27...a scarce find in this reading copy of a vintage children's classic.

Dust jacket has several 1/2tears to spine edges otherwise charming and picture of the two sets of twins smiling out of a window. Book pages are age darkened. Previous owners name and date (1940) written in pencil and can easily be removed if desired. From the publisher's foreword,"Seldom does awriter succeed in capturing the very essence of happy, carefree childhood and portraying it is a story as well as the author." The first of Hope's series.

Alas, no dust jacket on this one - only a few inches of the jacket is left on the back of the book as if it was at one time glued. Green cover with the familiar orange endpapers of Grosset & Dunlap. Previous owners name with date of 1940. Pages very slightly age darkened. Another charming story of the twins and a mystery at that!
